Why am I a photographer?

I am a photographer because I have a passion towards capturing moments with my camera. When I am asked to take a photograph, it is receiving an invitation to an intimate moment. Whether it is a family session or a portrait, intimate moments can present themselves anywhere, and I get the privilege to be a part of them.

I was asked to do a family session before the father was deployed. The session was wonderful, the kids were playful, and the weather was perfect. I took some shots of the father with each of the three children separately. When it came time for the eldest daughter to pose with her father, you could feel the emotion. The daughter began to cry, and I was invited in to capture that moment. The father closed his eyes and tenderly hugged his daughter while she smiled back at me with a tear in her eye. It was beautiful, honest, and vulnerable and I was there to freeze it. When the daughter left her dad’s embrace, she walked over and was immediately comforted by her mother. I was overwhelmed with gratitude to have been part of that moment.

Photographers create connections. Following a portrait session, a client informed me that she gave one of her headshots to her elderly grandmother who has been struggling with memory loss and had not seen her granddaughter for some time. When she saw the photograph, she lit up and smiled and commented on how absolutely beautiful her granddaughter is. The client contacted me and told me how her portrait had ignited joy in her grandmother, which was something the family had not seen in quite a while. I told my client how much it meant to me hear of her experience. I went on to tell her that this is why I take pictures, I get to be a part of creating joy.

I am a photographer because I am invited into others' lives to capture moments and create connections.

· As a photographer, I receive invitations to participate in intimate moments.

· As a photographer, I get the opportunity to freeze memories and produce a snapshot of life for my clients.

· As a photographer, I have the gift of creating joy for someone else.

I am so beyond grateful for the invitations I receive and the memories I get to capture.
